Agnes C. Chaney, the daughter of Ross and Josephine (Whitmire) Chaney, was born December 24, 1959, in Claremore, Oklahoma and departed this life on April 4, 2021, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 61 years, 3 months and 11 days. Agnes passed peacefully at home with her family by her side.
Agnes graduated from Will Rogers High School where she participated in Indian Club. She was a member of Tulsa Indian United Methodist Church. Agnes worked for Reaching Hands for many years before she went to Chris Nickel where she worked for over 20 years. She loved her job and co-workers. Agnes was very proud to be Cherokee and she was very proud of her Cherokee Heritage. She enjoyed beading, crafting, going to Pow Wow's and other cultural events. She also enjoyed sharing her passion for her heritage with others.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ross and Josephine Whitmire-Chaney and her sisters Wynona Hogner and Polly Dacy.
Agnes loved her family dearly. She enjoyed spending time with her sisters and brother and she adored her nieces and nephews. She is survived by a loving family which includes her brother Sonny Whitmire and wife Marilyn of Nowata; her sisters Rebecca Worthington, Ellouise Whitmire and Euphamia Thompson all of Tulsa; a very close lifelong friend Patty Kishketon and husband Rowe of Seminole; and a loving granddaughter Aniya Hardridge of Tulsa. Several nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive her. Agnes touched many lives over the years and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
