Tahlequah

Evelyn (Aileen Canoe) Robertson, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednseday November 25, 2020 at her residence in Tahlequah, OK surrounded by her loving family who loved and cared for her. Evelyn was born on Ferbuary 5, 1929 to Benjamin and Lizzie Canoe (Bark) in Claremore, OK. She was the last living out of 11 children.

Evelyn was very loved and loved to give she had a heart for all people and never did she meet a stranger, she had such a heart of gold. If my mom ever seen a stranger passing who looked tired and hungry or just broken mom always brought them in, fed them and would even give them clothes, a shower and a sacked lunch to go with a prayer. She always said "never turn anyone away because you never know, that might be Jesus" which is what her dad taught her and with the heart of love and compassion that the Lord put within her. She showed Jesus to others, not only to strangers but to her family. She always welcomed family and friends with a smile, a hug or a hand shake. She could whip up a nice home cooked meal in a matter of minutes if you wanted to stay and eat.Mom loved with her whole heart and would give anything she had if you asked, even when you didnt she was a giver, a listener, a forgiver, a shoulder and a friend, she loved to share childhood memories and she sure had stories to tell. Everyone who met her absolutely loved her. She was a strong woman who blessed many many lives. We are truly blessed to call her mom.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Lizzie Canoe, 6 brothers, 4 sisters, her husband Dalton Robertson and 4 sons, Bobbie, Mike, Dennis and Ray Arneecher.

Survivors included are her children, Elizabeth Deere of Okmulgee, OK, Terry Arneecher and wife Jane of Tahlequah, OK, Benny Arneecher of Ardmore, OK, Cheryl (Sherry) Spencer of the home, Tonya Gann of Catoosa, OK, 21 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren and 10 great, great grandchildren, an adoptive daughter, Jan West of Chelsea, OK and daughter Shiela Sparks as well as 2 cousins, Ada Spears and Velma Carpenter.

Evelyn often brags on a few very memorable memories. At age 91 years old Cherokee Chief, Chuck Hoskins, Jr. celebrated her birthday with her and honored her with wrapping her Indian blanket around her and recognizing her for many years she has lived and all her life has brought. The other most memorable and joyful time in her life was to see all the accomplishments her 1st born grandson Joe Deere has accomplished as not only Cherokee Nation Tribal Councilor for District 13, but after all the hard work he has done and the endless hours he has put in and unending travels he has been on with his title. Mom was very honored to be Joe Deeres grandmother as well as all the others. The other joy is her beautiful Indian dress and Moccasins handmade by Bobbie Deere. Mom was proud to be a mother, a grandmother, aunt, and cousin but those mentioned were highlights in her life. Serving as pallbearers will be, Gary Canoe, Ronnie Canoe, Jimmy Canoe, Joe Deere, Mike Murphy and Paul Walker. Honorable mentions, moms little Missy and little boy Maurice and Little Lexi.
