Arland (Silas) Freeman Hamby the son of Floyd and Opal (Sellers) Hamby was born September 12, 1930 in Welling, Oklahoma and departed this life on March 24, 2018 in Welling, Oklahoma at the age of 87 years, 6 months and 12 days.
Arnie was a man's man and always did what he thought was right. He started out working on the farm that his dad was working on at the age of 8. He would milk cows by hand and plant the gardens and just do general work around the farm. Then as a teenager he began working for a crew that wrecked buildings. He was able to travel all over with the crew and stayed until he was inducted into the Army in April 1952. After his service he went to work for Sun Oil in 1957 as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement in 1987. By this point his life had come full circle and he had raised his four boys, whom he loved more than anything in the world, and retired to his cattle ranch in Welling. He loved his home and he loved his cattle. His place was where he wanted to stay and he was able to stay there until the very end. Arnie touched many lives over the years and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dick Hamby.
He is survived by a loving family which includes his four boys John Hamby and wife Judy of Tulsa, Mike Hamby and wife Marie of Sand Springs, Lance Hamby and wife Robin of Tahlequah and Jim Hamby of Tahlequah; his brothers Boyd Hamby and wife Marie of Welling and Ronnie Hamby and wife Lydia of Welling; his sisters Jean Foster and husband JD of Muskogee and Sharon Foster and husband Rick of Wylie, TX; his lifelong companion Opal Hamby and her son whom he thought of as his own Chris Sneed; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive him.
