Betty Jane Burris the daughter of Samuel Earl and Margaret (Jackson) Short was born November 21, 1925 in Mangum, Oklahoma and departed this life on March 16, 2020 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the age of 94 years, 3 months and 24 days.
Betty loved life and she loved her family. She was proud to have been born and raised in Mangum, a small town in Southwestern Oklahoma, where she came from a pioneer family, who were part of one of the land runs in early Oklahoma history. She earned her Master's Degree and worked as a school counselor until her retirement. She loved art, and she taught art in school for several years. She followed OU football because her husband Buddy Burris played for OU in college where they met. They married while in college and moved to Green Bay, WI, while Buddy played for the Greenbay Packers, and lived there from 1949-1951 until the birth of their first child. They then moved back home to Oklahoma to raise their family. No matter the situation that arose in life she was the glue that held the family together. She enjoyed antiques, traveling, books and entertaining. Betty touched many lives over the years and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul Buddy Burris; her brother John Short and her sister Peggy Hoover.
She is survived by a loving family which includes her children Paul B. Burris and wife Doris Charlene of Travelers Rest, SC and Melinda Moore and husband Herbert Moore of Ardmore, OK; 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive her.
