Betty Schaub

March 19, 1935 — January 31, 2018

One of God's Angels, Betty Rea Schaub passed away this past week of natural causes.

A Memorial Service will be held in her honor on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 2:00 in Van Buren at Ocker Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Betty wanted memorial donations made to The Crawford County Volunteer Literacy Council at P.O. Box 1107, Van Buren, AR 72956.

Betty was an angel from GOD. She was sent here to support, encourage, and provide for her family, and people privileged to enough to have known her. She was the most loving, caring, inspiring, motivating, and positive person, unbelievably strong and dedicated woman, with the patience of a Saint. Betty was extremely proud to be affiliated with the Crawford County Volunteer Literacy Council. Likewise, the Literacy Council was proud and thankful for her service, dedication, and sincerity to all her students and members. She tutored many adult students, enabling them to receive the capability to read, where schools and/or society had failed them. Her simple motivation was as she said, "everyone deserves a chance to read". This was her most passionate endeavor over the past 30 years of her life. And man did she deliver, time and time again, while expecting nothing but the satisfaction of an adult who could now read, who previously struggled. She was appropriately recognized for her committed service in being selected as the Tutor of the Year in Arkansas in 2016.

Before the Literacy Council, Betty and her husband raised their four boys. During this time, she was extremely active in the Boys & Girls Club of America in Van Buren. While there, she volunteered to help run the concession stands during baseball, football, and basketball seasons for several years, and soon thereafter managed all concessions. She did this during the late evening week days and weekends, while working a full-time job during the day. This was her way of providing her four boys the opportunity to participate in sports programs and mature through childhood, while Charles Schaub served in the Vietnam War. These four boys challenged her many, many times, but being the matriarch of the family, she always advocated positive motivation reinforced with valuable advice while never extending a negative word about anyone or anything. This women as GOD's creation was the most positive and inspirational person throughout all life. I wish everyone in this world could have experienced her presence, and just had an opportunity to talk to her one time, about anything. We honor her for all that she has done, for her family and so many people she touched through her journey of life. She was the best woman in world, and will be missed forever, until we all meet her in heaven.
