She is survived by her daughters, Jessica Baker, Whitney Reichard, and her granddaughter, Delilah Michelle Reichard. She is lovingly remembered, by not just her daughters, but their spouses, and her many, cousins, nieces, nephews, Great nieces, great nephews, and many, many friends and colleagues.
Billie was born on April 9, 1944, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma the daughter of William and Agnes Glory. Being an Aries the stubbornness and 'get it done' attitude to match came natural, Maxine made her mark in the world as an advocate of children's education.
Starting out counseling and working children's special education summer camps, she eventually went on to be a special needs school teacher, and influenced and contributed to social programs for children's education. Maxine also rose to become the head of Indian Education for the board of education, as well as a member of the national board, and had dinner with former President Bill Clinton, himself, at the Whitehouse.
Not only has Maxine been a leader in education, but also, a leader in love. Maxine lived, raised, inspired, and gave true love to her nieces, Whitney and Jessica. Though they are not her biological daughters, not a day goes by without them remembering their earth mother.
She and the girls, unknowingly made a family of their own. A love they all had to give, and they gave it to each other, not just when they needed it the most, but through life completely, with all it's milestones, and tragedies. In the end, Aunt max, Jessica, and Whitney, were all together; a homemade family of misfits, loving, and living the last bits, together.
She will be remembered, and missed so dearly, by her daughters, her son, granddaughter, all of her family and friends, and probably most of all, her corgis...
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday May 1, 2021 at Elm Tree Baptist Church in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at 12 PM with Bro. Douglas Bryant officiating.
