Comanche Rebecca (Still) McCracken passed from this life on September 20, 2017. Comanche was born on April 11, 1918, the only child of Thomas Jefferson Still and Emma Elizabeth (Langrill) Still. She was later the
stepdaughter of I. W. Killebrew. Comanche was a graduate of Bagley High School in Tahlequah and attended Northeastern Teachers College for a year.
In 1935 Comanche married Billie Ballew, who was then the undersheriff for Cherokee County. To that union was born Jack Lee Ballew, a resident of Tahlequah. In 1939, Comanche married Sessler (Mac) McCracken, with whom
she later traveled, with their son Bobby Duane McCracken, throughout much of the United States and Canada. Before returning to Cherokee County in 1976, Comanche and Mac lived in the Washington, D. C., area, where Mac
was a superintendent for W. A. Chester, a company from Long Island, New York, that provided underground electric substations for major U. S. metropolitan areas.
Comanche enjoyed her life after returning to Cherokee County while reviving old friendships and building new ones. She certainly enjoyed her fellowship with members of the Peggs Community Church, of which she was a member
for several years. A special joy to her was that of being closer physically to her family members and relatives already living in Oklahoma.
Comanche was known as a loving and gracious person to her friends and church members. She looked forward to her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's visits from California and New Jersey. Comanche was young at
heart and was able to drive and make good stock market decisions through her middle eighties. Many times she was heard to say, "My mind wants me to do so many things, but my body won't let me."
Comanche is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas J. Still and Emma (Langrill) Still Killebrewl; her stepfather, I. W. Killebrew; her husband, Mac McCracken: and her two sons, Jack L. Ballew and Bobby Duane McCracken.
She is survived by her daughters-in-law, Rachel McCracken of Long Beach, California, and Margie Ballew of Jacksonville, Florida. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jeanine Amalfatano and husband Roy of Baskin Ridge,
New Jersey; Bart Ballew of Jacksonville, Florida; Elizabeth Ballew of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; Kevin Ballew of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; Doreen Holm and husband Heinrick of Long beach, California; Duane McCracken of West Hollywood,
California; Johnnie McCracken and wife Annie of Cypress, California; and Dr. Mitzi Reid and husband Greg of Norman, Oklahoma. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren and leaves behind a host of beloved relatives and
friends.
