Coy Willis

Coy A. Willis age 89 of Cookson, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at the Sequoyah Pointe Skilled Nursing & Therapy.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2023 at the Hart Funeral Home with Billy Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the Cookson Cemetery under the direction of the Hart Funeral Home.

Visitation hours will be held from 1:00 p .m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the Hart Funeral Home.

Coy A. Willis was born March 19, 1934 in Welling, Oklahoma to Grover and Charity (Wright) Willis. He grew up in Cherokee County and graduated from the Tahlequah High School. He then attended Howard Junior college in Big Springs, Texas.

On December 2, 1954 Coy entered the United States Army where he served until his retirement on August 29, 1976 as a Dental technician. He then went to work for the Veterans Administration for 14 years in Big Springs, Texas.

On May 14, 1956 Coy married Patsy Robertson "the love of his life" in Stigler, Oklahoma and they spent 61 years together. Patsy preceded him in death. The couple moved back to Tahlequah in 1993. He loved wood carving.

Survivors include four children Patricia Annette Gonzales, Linda Gail Derr, Pamela Willis Birmelin and Christopher Coy Willis; one sister Leona Eidson; grandchildren Allison White, Bradley White, Timothy Shugrue, Tyler Hart, Dr. Loni Dawn Pearish, Kenneth James Birmelin.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter Kayla Derr, one grandson Athen and one great grandchild, and ten brother and sisters.
