Tahlequah, OK ~ Funeral services for Daniel Robert Lewis will be held Monday September 10, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the New Life Church with Rev. Garland Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Ft. Gibson National Cemetery under the care and direction of Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah. Online condolences may be left at www.hartfuneralhome.net.

Daniel Robert Lewis the son of Virginia (Sellers) Lewis and Henry Lewis was born August 8, 1946 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and departed this life to be with the Lord on September 4, 2018 in Park Hill, Oklahoma at the age of 72 years and 27 days.

Dan went to school in Tulsa and moved to Tahlequah to live with his grandmother for a short time before entering the Army. After his service in the Army and a tour in Vietnam he returned to civilian life only to go to work for the United States Postal Service. Dan became very active in his community and was interested in law enforcement, beginning a second career in the late 1970's. Upon retiring from the Postal Service after 21 years, he began to pursue more in the law enforcement field. Dan worked as an Under Sheriff for Cherokee County, he was a DA Investigator, and he was instrumental in getting a SWAT team organized in Cherokee County. Dan also went to an FBI training, along with Dan Garber, to learn Crisis Negotiation. Dan was always thinking of others and he helped start the first Vet Center at the Sheriff's office as a counseling group for Vets. Dan surrendered his life to the Lord and began Point Man Ministries. He would go to the jails and preach and counsel inmates. A Tulsa World writer came to witness his ministry and decided to give him the front page of the paper as he believed that Dan sincerely cared. Dan was one of the original members of the Priesthood Motorcycle Club and was a member of the New Life Church in Tahlequah. Dan enjoyed photography and rodeos. He touched many lives over the years and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his grandmother Victoria Goss Collins and grandfather Lyn Sellers.

He is survived by a loving family which includes his wife Pamela of the home; his sons Danny Lewis Jr. and wife Jeanette Padgett of Delta Junction, AK, and David James Lewis of Tahlequah; his sister Gayle Allen of Muskogee; and two grandchildren Rocky John Lewis of Bentonville, AR and Kyle Mitchell Lewis of Delta Junction, AK. Numerous friends, and other relatives also survive him
