Donald Marshall

January 9, 1950 — December 22, 2021

Rev. Donald Edward Marshall is the only son to Donald and Verda Marshall. He was born January 9, 1950 in Omaha, Nebraska and departed this life on December 22, 2021, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 71 years.

Pastor Don Marshall was a graduate of Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. He served over 40 years of pastoral care to Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Oaks, Oklahoma, St John 's Lutheran Church in San Antonio, TX, and St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Sand Springs, OK.

Marshall, executive director at Oaks Indian Mission, has spent decades ministering to congregations, communities, Native American families and youth. Marshall's work in ministry has earned recognition at synod wide church assemblies and speaking engagements. In 2019, Marshall received the Cherokee National Holiday Samuel Worcester award, given to non-Cherokees who have given substantial contributions to the preservation of Cherokee heritage, culture, community, and sovereignty.

Don also enjoyed reading and writing. His writing has earned awards from the Ozark Writers and Artist Guild, also The Tulsa Library Foundation.

An avid sports fan, Marshall born and raised in Nebraska had a love and passion for Husker football.

Don was the epitome of community service, a father figure, a mentor to many! He gave his heart and soul to his congregations along with his life long commitment to Oaks Indian Mission.

Don had a special gift, he was a connector, people were drawn to him. Through his faith, he impacted and inspired many lives. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him!

Don Marshall was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Gretchen Fields; special aunt and uncle Virgil and Betty Mathine; sister-in-law's Colleen Toro, Cora Bell Smith, Loretta Combs, and Sue Mathine.

He is survived by his children Delora Marshall of Tulsa, OK, Michael Marshall of Idabel, OK, and Trina Fraizer of Ladera Ranch, CA; granddaughter Laynee Marshall of McAlester, OK; sister-in-law Evelyn Starr of Kansas, OK; brother-in-law Bill Smith of Jay, OK; special cousins Ed Mathine of Omaha, NE, Jim and wife Rita Mathine of Fort Worth, TX, Bob Mathine and Terri Samuelson of Omaha, NE; Cheryl and husband Phil Gray of Omaha, NE. Many other relatives and friends also survive Don.
