Dora Vance

August 5, 1949 — December 13, 2022

Dora Vance the daughter of Robert and Nancy (Walker) Mouse was born August 5, 1949, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and departed this life on December 13, 2022, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 8 days.

Dora enjoyed life and she loved her family. She enjoyed cooking, especially Sunday dinners. She also enjoyed going to the creek, camping, yard sales and going to the casino. Karen and Dora loved to take spontaneous road trips. When the family would ask them where they were going, they would respond "we are just going for a ride". Another of her favorite family activities was to pick blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries. Derek and Dora would spend hours picking, but bring very few home because they ate more than they picked. She was very proud of her Cherokee Heritage and she taught Cherokee Language at Grandview School for the past six years. Dora ran an in-home daycare from 1993 to 2005. She loved children and they loved her. In her younger years you could find Dora on Moody's softball field playing centerfield. Her love of sports was passed down to her children. There are fond memories of Dora playing catch in the yard with Mark and Randy. She also always made sure her kids and grandkids knew how to ride bikes at a very early age, so they weren't left behind by their cousins. Dora was a special lady with a one-of-a-kind personality. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Lucy Overacker; and her brothers Robert "Sonny" Mouse, David Mouse, Jody Mouse, and Clifford Mouse.

She is survived by a loving family which includes her husband Ernest Vance of the home; her children Karen Vance, Mark Vance and wife Amanda, Randy Vance and Derek Vance all of Tahlequah; her siblings Cora Vann of Woodall, Nora Weaver of Tahlequah, Jackie Mouse of Tahlequah, Michael Mouse of Briggs, and Marvin Mouse of Tahlequah; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive her.
