Edward Self

Edward Self the son of Samuel Edward and Nancy Pairlea (Guthrie) Self was born July 14, 1927 in Westville, Oklahoma and departed this life on January 20, 2017 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 6 days.

Edward was a carpenter by trade and he loved what he did. He enjoyed building things and working with wood. He loved taking the grandkids fishing and he enjoyed spending time with his family. Edward had a way of telling a story and stretching it as far as he could. He loved telling those stories and everyone enjoyed hearing them, no matter how little truth might be involved. Edward was a good father and grandfather and he loved his family very much. He also tried to be a father figure to kids who needed help, he had a big heart and tried to help in any way that he could. Edward enjoyed sitting down relaxing with a cup of coffee and a bag of Cheetos. He touched many lives over the years and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and mother of his children Marie (Sasser) Self; his second wife Mary (Geisler) Self; his daughters Shirley Diane Lightfoot and Denise Lynn Bauman; four brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by a loving family which includes his children Paula Marie Lewis and husband Craig of Minden, NV, Karen Sue Rhine and husband Dale of Hollister, CA, Dale Edward Self and wife Grace of Salinas, CA, and Christina Yevette McCarter and husband Danny of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive him.
