Elvin Herman Barnett age 77 Tulsa, OK passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2015 in Tahlequah, OK. Elvin Herman was born on August 18, 1937 in Rocky Ford, Oklahoma, the son of the late Alonzo and Jodie (Hilderbrand) Barnett. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Junior Lee "Ticket" Barnett, Mack Houston Barnett, Bobby Gene Barnett, and sister Ella Mae Rogers.
Herman was a 1957 graduate of Oaks Mission High School. After graduation he was employed at Patterson Steel until 1960 when he proudly enlisted in the United States Army. He completed basic training at Ft. Hood, Texas and was later stationed in Straubing, Germany. Upon his completion of his service to his country, he returned home and attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK. He graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1966 and completed his Master's Degree from NSU also. Mr. Barnett began his twenty five year teaching career with Tulsa Public Schools in 1966 at Lombard Elementary. And continued to touch and influence children's lives while teaching at William Penn Elementary, McKinley Elementary, Riley Elementary and Roosevelt Elementary.
Being around horses was one of Herman's favorite things to do. He was known for being a good trainer and having great Quarter Horses with great pedigrees. He could be seen most every weekend at a rodeo or at the race track.
During his retirement years he took up many new hobbies, one of which was playing the guitar and acting. He continued his education even after retirement at Tulsa Junior College where he took many drama, acting and theatre classes. He was cast in the role as "Sheriff" in the independent movie "Party Crasher: My Bloody Birthday" and appeared in the NBC Movie of the Week: "In The Line of Duty, Ambush in Waco". One of his most enjoyable roles he played was that of Mayor in the Trail of Tears Drama at the Tsa-La-Gi Amphitheater. He was proud of his Cherokee heritage and was proud to be a Christian. He received the calling of the Lord early in life and showed his devotion by reading the entire Bible three times in his lifetime.
Mr. Barnett is survived by his daughter, Bridgett Barnett Phillips of Resaca, Georgia, her husband Danny. Granddaughters Danielle and Sage Phillips also of Resaca, Georgia. Extended family Sue Molloy and husband Eddie of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and children Dell Molloy and Dana Daniels. Kathie Morris of Chewey, Oklahoma and daughter Michelle Taylor. Special children Maci Dale and Trevor Taylor. Brother D.D. Barnett of Farmington, New Mexico. Sister Shirley Barnett of Yuba City, California. Sisters-in-Law Patsy Barnett and Judy Barnett. And many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be for Elvin Herman Barnett will be Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 11:00 am at Hart Funeral Home in Tahlequah, OK with Terry Guthrie and Maxie Thompson officiating. The family will receive family and friends on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Hart Funeral Home. Interment will follow the services at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers are Dave Dykes, Sonny Dodd, Mick Dundom.
