Floyd J. Cox Jr. the son of Floyd J. Cox Sr. and Bessie Roper Cox was born June 17, 1925 in Ponca City, Oklahoma and departed this life on August 4, 2014 in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 18 days.
Floyd attended and graduated from Bagley High School in Tahlequah. Floyd married the love of his life Juanita Faye Jarvis on May 22, 1944. Shortly after they were married he was drafted into the 79th Infantry on August 10, 1944 and served in WWII in Central Europe, Germany and Japan. Floyd was such a unique individual that instead of combat boots he was issued cowboy boots to wear, because his feet were too small for combat boots. After WWII he had joined the 45th Infantry Oklahoma Army National Guard and served in Korea with the Thunderbirds. Floyds military career consisted of him being a Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, Graves Registration Officer, Company Commander, S1 Officer, S2 Officer and S4 Officer. He had resigned his commission as a Lieutenant Colonel and enlisted back into the Army National Guard as a Staff Sergeant and was quickly promoted to First Sergeant while his son Floyd Lee Cox served as the Company Commander. He served his country proudly for 40 years and 10 months. During his military career he was able to complete college and attain his Masters Degree. He was a teacher and taught at Westville, Kansas, Skelly and Stilwell. He was also a bus driver for Stilwell and he carried his paddle up above his mirror in his bus. One of his most enjoyable times as a teacher was when he served as the Cheerleading sponsor for Westville, he was proud to say that he whipped those girls into shape. After teaching he served on the Stilwell School Board for many years and was loved by all the school staff. Floyd spent his spare time wood working, whittling or just building different knick knacks. His most treasured craft took a little over 30 years to complete, but he finally finished carving Noahs Ark and all the animals. He loved going to arts and crafts shows and showing off his work. He served as an Auxiliary officer for the police and sheriffs department and spent most of his time riding around with his son Marty Ray Cox. Floyd enjoyed life and enjoyed serving his country and his community. He touched many lives over the years and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents his wife Juanita Cox his grandson John Wayne, granddaughter Linda Rene, grandson Christopher Lee, and his second wife Georgia.
He is survived by a loving family which includes his children Linda Jo Mann of Tahlequah, Floyd Lee Cox of Edmond and Marty Ray Cox and wife Cathy of Westville his brotherinlaw Jim Chastain and wife Sharon of Bartlesville his grandchildren Robbie and wife Bev, Mandy and husband Todd, Karen, Katrina and husband Mike, Jessica and husband Tony, Chad and Diana, Matt and Vallery and Toby and Maranda and his great grandchildren Chandler, Destiny, Trey, Tobey, Mason, Emeri, Raegan, Lily, Deegan and Dax. Many friends and other relatives also survive him.
