Herschel Douglas Clinton

June 1, 1945 — May 28, 2026

Peggs, OK - Herschel Douglas Clinton, a proud patriot, devoted family man, and Vietnam veteran, passed away on May 28, 2026, at the age of 80.

Born on June 1, 1945, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Herschel was a man defined by his integrity and hard work. A courageous veteran of the Vietnam War, Herschel served honorably in the United States Army. He was a frontline combatant in the historic 1968 Tet Offensive, standing strong alongside his fellow soldiers during one of the most critical turning points of the conflict. His bravery, resilience, and unwavering commitment to his brothers-in-arms during his deployment reflected the very best of the American military spirit.

Upon returning home from Vietnam, Herschel carried his disciplined work ethic and strong character into his civilian life. He dedicated his lifetime career to carpentry, where his skilled hands, attention to detail, and reliable nature left a lasting mark on countless projects. He was deeply respected for his craftsmanship and honesty. Outside of his hard work, Herschel was a true outdoorsman whose favorite pastimes were bird hunting and attending the chicken fights.

Throughout his many years in carpentry, Herschel developed a deep affection for those he considered his "Crew"-the guys who worked alongside him and for him. He considered them both dear friends and family. In a powerful testament to their bond, Herschel often expressed that they had carried him through life, and it was his wish that they would carry him to his final resting place.

Herschel possessed an unforgettable sense of humor; anyone spending just five minutes with him would have plenty to laugh about from the stories he could tell. Above all, his greatest joy in life was simply spending time with those he cared about, encompassing both his large family and his many, many friends.

Herschel is survived by his loving wife of the home, Gloria Clinton; his daughter, Carrie Ann Kean; his stepdaughter, Jessica Lynn Beleno; one uncle Maxie Rayburn Thompson; his brothers, Gordon Wynn Clinton and Kavin Michael Clinton; and his sisters, Virginia Lee Crow, Landa Camille Clinton, and Bronwyn Ahnawake Siefers. He also leaves behind many beloved nephews, and nieces who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, David Artie Clinton; his granddaughter, Samantha Faith Hinds; his father, Earl Herschel Clinton; his mother, Gladys Virginia Thompson Clinton; his brothers, James (Jimmy) Leonard Clinton and Earl Joey Clinton; and his sisters, Elaine (Charlie)Regina Mann, Rhonda Michelle Clinton, and Elise Romelle Clinton.
