Imogene Campbell

May 22, 1940 — June 6, 2021

Tahlequah

Imogene was born May 22, 1940, in Bentley, Oklahoma, and is the daughter of Florence Myrtle (McGinty) Hooper & Edward Hooper. She was married to William (Bill) Campbell for 49 years and they have two children, Kim & Andy Campbell. She taught school for many years. Imogene had a deep, lifelong love of music; she wrote and sang and played. She loved visiting her relatives. She had a quick sense of humor, which was strongly grounded in the ways of growing up in the country.

She was known for her famous "chicken & dressing" dish, and friends called on holidays to ask: "Is there any of that chicken & dressing left over?" She loved and lived for taking care of her family, which always came first. As she grew more limited in her activities, she still loved singing along with recordings of Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, & Johnny Cash.

She died June 6, at age 81. She will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward & Myrtle Hooper, by her husband, William Campbell, sister Mildred (Hooper) Sisson, brothers Tony Hooper, Dudley Hooper, & Wayne Hooper.

Survivors include her children, Kim & Andy Campbell, grandsons A.J., & Chase Campbell & their mother, Jackie Campbell. She also leaves a sister, Retia Cutbill, many nieces and nephews, and two sisters-in-law, Fannie Billy and Ann Johnson Lair. The family wishes to thank the caregivers: Debra Walker, Rebecca, Brandon, Tiffany, Sam & Chrystal Byrd, & Kristie. The family also wishes to thank Patricia & Fred Cameron, Emma (Cameron)-Thirsty, John & Mary Campbell, Retia & Gary Cutbill, Dee & Vickie Sisson, Danny Sisson, and also Roxanne Sanders & Debbie Proctor, & Margie Phillips for their kind and loving support.

Honorary Pallbearers include: Dee & Danny Sisson, Stanley & Michael Hooper, Richard Gary Cutbill, Fred & George Cameron, John & Darrel Campbell, David & Aaron Johnson, Joey Billy, John Wesley Campbell, Curtis Proctor, Thomas Avery Bear & Glenn Riggs.
