Irene Chaney

Frances Irene Acker Bynum Chaney was born November 24th 1927 in Checotah, Ok to George Earnest and Frances Gertrude Acker. Irene was married to Leslie Murl Bynum April 30th, 1947. To this union one son was born Carl Gene Bynum February 28, 1949. Leslie preceded them in death April 24th 1956. Irene married Emmitt Lon Chaney Oct. 17th 1964. Emmitt preceded her in death May 30th 2000.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie, Emmitt, brother George Henry Acker, sister Flora V. Bailey, two nieces Nina Fay Thomas Kilpatrick and Georgean Acker. Survivors include her son Carl Gene Bynum and wife Lynne of Tempe, AZ, two grandchildren Jennifer Lee and husband Brandon Merritt of Pryor OK and James Jim Leslie Bynum of Orlando, FL. Two nephews Neil Acker of Muskogee, OK and Bill Bailey and wife Linda of Claremore, OK, three nieces Linda F. and husband Duaine Janzen of Okmulgee, Ok Lizebeth and husband Butch Martine of Inola, OK and Caroline Sue and husband Terry Lawson of Miami, OK. Sister in law Bernice Carpember of Okmulgee OK. Emmitt has two daughters Carol Jean and husband Carl Seagraves of Otatha, KS, and Beverly Gail and husband Ted Sherwood of Kansas City, KS. Four grandson Kevin and wife Ami Root Lees of Summit, MO, Koby and wife Tricia Root Lees of Summitt, MO, Michael Beard and wife Jena of Kansas City, KS. Kelly and wife Holli Root of Kansas City, MO. Granddaughter Stacy and husband Ron Crim of Kansas City, KS. Host of other relatives, loved one and friends.
Irene worked with her husband Leslie in their grocery business. After his death, she attended Muskogee Beauty College receiving her advanced Beautician license. Then owned and operated a Beauty Shop. She retired in December 1995 after her son graduated from Medical School. Professing Christ at an early age in Checotah, OK she became a member of the First General Baptist Church of Tahlequah, OK August 11 1956 and was a member until it sold August 2000. She served as a clerk, youth Sunday school teacher, led choir, various committees, served as W.M.S. President, was on Camp Robertson Youth Camp Advisory board 19 years and chairman of that board 12 years, also a teacher at the camp 21 years.
In 2000 she joined the Welling General Baptist Church, there she served as clerk and sang in the choir and W.M.S. President. In December 2007 she joined Park Hill Baptist Church until her death. She began volunteering at the Tahlequah City Hospital Oct. 31, 2003. Working in the Surgery Waiting room, she loved working there. As a volunteer she felt it was very grateful to give back to your community. She said that she enjoyed serving others. She served on the Auxiliary board two years as a member at large, President one year and 3 years as Blood drive coordinator for the Tahlequah City Hospital. She worked 9 months before coming coordinator. She served five years for R.S.V.P, she served as chairperson for Surgery waiting room. There she served until diagnosed with cancer May 5, 2012.
