James Iredelle Hinds, Sr., 78, a cherished resident of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025. Born on May 13, 1947, in Tahlequah, he was the beloved son of the late William and Doris (Squyers) Hinds. James leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and service.
Throughout his life, he was devoted to his family, especially to his sons, James Hinds, Jr. and Christopher Hinds. He is also survived by his brother, Jack Russel (Leeanna), sister Diane Hinds, and five adoring grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and loving family members who will forever remember the warmth and wisdom he shared with them.
James was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, a chapter of his life that exemplified his dedication and commitment to serving his country. After graduating from Tahlequah High School in 1965, he continued his education, obtaining a master's degree in education from Northeastern State University. His passion for education mirrored his love for life, where he found joy in teaching, fishing, playing golf, and strumming his guitar to create beautiful music.
James was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Lt. William Herbert Hinds, Jr. and Stephen Gerald Hinds, and his daughter, Samantha Hinds. Their memories will forever be intertwined with his.
Reflecting on his life, it is clear that James found true happiness in the simple moments shared with family and friends. His laughter, wisdom, and love for music will echo in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.
