Janet Kay Odell was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 30, 1945 to her loving parents, Roy Allen Minugh and Muriel Nellie Jean (Collins) Minugh. She was their only child and dearest blessing. Her early childhood was spent in Muskogee, with her later school years in Tulsa. She was an exceptional student, graduating with honors from Nathan Hale High School in 1964. She then began business school. Janet married Jim Odell, the love of her life, on April 16, 1965 in Tulsa. After two years in Missouri, where Jim taught industrial education and she a homemaker, they moved back to the Norwood community, where they built their home and raised their family of three children, Jimmy Odell, Angela (Odell) Craig, and Brent Odell.
Funeral Service will be 1 PM, Friday, February 14, 2025 at Hart Funeral Home, burial to follow at Hulbert City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Hart Funeral Home, Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 5 PM until 7 PM.
Once her children were in school, Janet graduated from Northeastern State University, with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught fourth grade at Pershing Elementary in Muskogee Public Schools for 18 years, where she later retired. She was saved, baptized, and a long-time, devoted member of Hulbert First Baptist Church. Janet was known for her devotion to the Lord and her tremendous love for her family.
Janet loved the country life and helped Jim with the family farm. She helped with cattle, baling hay, cutting wood, and all aspects of the country life. She was never afraid to work. Janet also loved camping trips to Colorado. Her family was her life. She loved all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved playing with them and spending time with them all.
Janet went home to be with the Lord on February 7, 2025 peacefully in her sleep. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Muriel Minugh. She was survived by her loving husband, Jim Odell, and her three children, Jimmy Odell and wife Renee, Angela Craig and husband Bryan, and Brent Odell and wife Elizabeth. She was also survived by six grandchildren, Austin Craig and wife Andrea, Ashlee Marozick and husband Chris, Morgan Parker and husband Jake, Isabella Odell, Dylan Odell, and Collin Odell, as well as her five great-grandchildren, Kynleigh Steeley, Harper Craig, Wade Craig, Bo Parker and Sam Parker, and a brother-in-law, Steve Odell and wife Joan.
