Lawanda Retherford

LaWanda Faye Retherford, Welling Resident, went to be with her Lord on July 30, 2015. She was 61 years of age.

LaWanda was born November 12, 1953 in Chandler, OK. She was the daughter of Bennie and LaWanda (Howard) Archer. When Lawanda was very young her family moved to Denver, CO. She attended the first grade there before moving to Calhan, CO. In 1968 the family moved to Olathe, CO. In Olathe she met the love of her life, Larry Retherford. They were married on March 22, 1970. The couple had a beautiful, happy marriage. They resided in Montrose, CO for a short time before moving to Redding, CA.

LaWanda and her husband were baptized into The General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn on the same day, October 29, 1971 by his father, Bro. Joe Retherford. They were blessed with four children, one daughter and three sons. Their daughter Cathy Marie passed away at birth. In 1974 the family moved to Delta, CO and made their home there until moving to Welling in 1986.

Her hobbies included sewing; she made most of her children's clothing when they were growing up. She also loved baking and decorating cakes, making a lot of young people's wedding cakes and her grandchildren's birthday cakes. She loved to cook and try new recipes. She also liked to try new crafts.

LaWanda is survived by her husband, Larry, of Welling; three sons: Gary Lyn, wife Nicole and their daughter Eleanor Faye of Siloam Springs, AR, Kenneth DeWayne, wife JoAnn and their children, David Dean, Harley Joseph, Maria Faye, Shylynn CleAndra Delight, Chelsey LaVerne, Ashley Nicole and Daniel Jacob of Welling and Thomas Aaron, wife JoElla and daughters Katherine Jolene, Allison Marie and Madison Claire of Tahlequah; her mother, LaWanda Archer of Welling; brothers, Alfred Archer and wife Neva of Fayetteville, AR, Bill Archer and wife Debby of Montrose, CO; brother in laws, William Joseph of Perkins, OK and David Retherford and wife Linda of Henrietta, OK; Uncle Chuck and very special aunt Violet Byers of Olathe, CO, Aunt Bessie Byers and Aunt Carol Howard both of Olathe, CO and many friends and brethren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Cathy Marie, her father Bennie Archer, father in law William Joseph Retherford and mother in law Wilma Laverne Retherford.
