LD Stephens, the son of Lloyd and Gladys (Tincher) Stephens, was born March 10, 1936 in Yonkers, Oklahoma and departed this life on January 24, 2018 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 14 days.

LD loved life and he loved his family. He was an avid hunter of deer and elk, but his passion was quail hunting. He enjoyed traveling and being outdoors. Being on the river where he was born and raised was his favorite place to be, whether he was working at War Eagle or just spending time with his family. LD grew up along the Illinois River where he attended school at Scraper and Losier Schools. He graduated from NSU with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Arts. He was a contractor by trade until he purchased War Eagle and settled in at operating the float business. He served in several civic groups including: the Shriners, Masons, and Kiwanis Club, where he served as president. He also served as the President of the School Board for Tahlequah Public Schools and the Illinois River Float Operators Association. LD was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tahlequah and read his Bible every morning to start his day and every night before he went to bed. He had a generous spirit and loved helping people. LD touched many lives over the years and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Glen Stephens.

He is survived by a loving family which includes his life partner of over 43 years Joyce Blackwell; his children Pam Hazen and husband Mike of Tahlequah, Larry David Stephens of Tahlequah, and stepdaughter Robin Blackwell of Broken Arrow; his grandchildren Zachary French and wife Melissa, Ashley French, Courtney Cobb and husband George, Eric Stephens, and Matthew Stephens and wife Breck; and one great grandson Keller David Stephens. Numerous friends and other relatives also survive him. Special thanks to his caregiver Jeanna Howell for making the last months of his life as comfortable as possible.
