Leoma Buckhorn, born February 16, 1945, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, passed away on October 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, and countless cherished memories. Though her passing leaves a space that can never truly be filled, the love she shared and the memories she created will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all those fortunate enough to have known her.
Leoma lived a life filled with adventure, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for the things that brought her joy. She loved cars and traveling most of all, always carrying with her a spirit of adventure and an interest in the world around her. She also had a fondness for collecting bird figurines and little trinkets, treasures that reflected her own unique interests and personality. These little pieces of her life, along with the stories and memories attached to them, will remain reminders of the woman she was and the things that made her special.
Of all the things Leoma loved, however, nothing meant more to her than her family. Her children and grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she cherished the time she spent with them. Whether sharing time together, preparing a meal, or simply enjoying one another's company, it was these moments that became the memories her family will carry with them for years to come. Some of the most treasured memories are often found in the simplest things, in the familiar comforts of home, the traditions passed down through generations, and the little moments that become meaningful with time.
Leoma also loved to cook, and the meals she made became part of the memories her family holds dear. The smell of a familiar dish cooking, a favorite meal shared around the table, and the comfort of food made with love are the kinds of memories that stay with us long after the moment has passed. For her grandchildren, those memories of childhood and time spent with Grandma will always be a part of her legacy. Her beans and fried bread, meals she made often when her grandchildren were growing up, are one such reminder of the love and familiarity found in those everyday moments.
Leoma was a generous woman who gave freely of her time, energy, and heart. She cared deeply for the people in her life and found joy in giving to others. Her generosity was a reflection of the love she carried for those around her, and she was someone who left an impression through the care and kindness she extended to others. She understood the value of showing up for the people you love, sharing what you have, and making room for others in your life. The kindness she gave so freely will not be forgotten by the many people whose lives she touched.
And, of course, anyone who knew Leoma knew she was quite the talker! She loved a good conversation and could happily talk your ear off if you were willing to lend her an ear. That lively part of her personality is something her loved ones will remember with a smile. The conversations, the stories, and the familiar sound of her voice are among the things that make someone irreplaceable. In time, even the conversations that once seemed ordinary may become some of the memories her family treasures most.
Leoma is survived by her two children, Chris Houghland and Claudia Dean; her four grandchildren, Tiffany Anderson and her husband, Zachariah Anderson, Taylor Spears, Elijah Houghland, and Gracie Houghland; and a large circle of beloved family and friends who will continue to cherish her memory.
Leoma will be remembered for her love of family, her adventurous spirit, her generous heart, her love of traveling, and her gift for turning an ordinary conversation into a lasting memory. The things she enjoyed, the meals she prepared, the time she spent with those she loved, and the kindness she shared all form part of the legacy she leaves behind. Though she is no longer here to create new memories with those who love her, the memories already made will remain a source of comfort, laughter, and connection for years to come.
May Leoma's memory live on in every shared meal, every family gathering, every story told and retold, every conversation that runs a little longer than expected, and every act of kindness inspired by the love she gave. May those who knew her find comfort in remembering her not only for the years she lived, but for the love she shared and the lives she touched along the way. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
