Lou Ann Phillips the daughter of James Robert and Irene Blanche (Shibley) Parrish was born on January 1, 1933 in Kirksville, Missouri. Lou Ann passed peacefully from this world to the next on December 16, 2014 in Mansfield, TX at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 16 days with her son and daughter in law at her side.
Lou Ann received a teaching degree and taught home economics for a number of years in Bucklin, Missouri where she met the love of her life, Ronald Phillips. They married May 24, 1959 in Quincy, Illinois. She helped support her husband while he attained his Doctorate degree.
They moved to Saint Louis, Missouri where she continued teaching until they adopted their son at which time she became a full time mom and home maker. Lou Ann enjoyed being a mom even to the neighbor kids.
When they moved to Tahlequah, Oklahoma in 1976, she became an active member of the Cherokee Elementary School PTA. She was an active member in a number of organizations including PEO and AAUW. She served numerous roles in those organizations from President in some to Historian in others. She also headed up some Christmas time Tour of Homes which brought a lot of cheer to the town.
Lou Ann always kept food close to her heart. She worked as a food product demonstrator at some local supermarkets, worked for a local catering company and even taught some night classes at Northeastern State University. She enjoyed entertaining and hosting dinner parties with a group of friends that termed themselves the "Gourmet Club". In more recent years she took pleasure in being Granny to her two grandchildren with whom she enjoyed making cookies, playing games and spoiling in general.
She was preceded in death by her parents James and Irene Parrish as well as her beloved and devoted husband of 50+ years, Dr. Ronald Phillips.
She is survived by her loving family which includes her only child James Ronald Phillips and his wife Sonya of Arlington, Texas and 2 grandchildren Lola (11) and Drake (7) Phillips who also reside in Arlington, Texas. Many friends and extended family also survive her.
