Naomi Ellen Wilson Mathews the daughter of Loyd O. Wilson and Frieda Allen Mullen was born April 25, 1933, in Weleetka, Oklahoma and she departed this life on June 17, 2022, at home with her family. She was 89 years old. A memorial service will be held in her honor at the Veteran's National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson on June 29, 2022, at 1:30 PM. She will be buried next to her husband of fifty-one years, Dale E. Mathews. Ellen is survived by her son, Mark Dale Mathews, daughter, Marcia Kim Cooper and husband Steve, sister, Ann Boswell and husband Bob, brother, G.M. Reddick and spouse, Ron, granddaughter, April Anne Carson, and husband, Spencer, great granddaughters, Ariella and Adria Carson, and a cherished step-mother Eula Faye Wilson Woods.
She graduated from Weleetka High School in 1951 as President and Valedictorian of her senior class. She graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1954 with a degree in education, and a Master's Degree from NSU in 1960. She nurtured and cherished the many students throughout her teaching career of thirty two years. During her active years, Ellen served her community and church with dedication. She was an artist, seamstress, collector of antiques, an avid reader, sports enthusiast and a faithful friend. In lieu of flowers, donations be made to her beloved First United Methodist Church, 300 West Delaware, Tahlequah, OK 74464, or the Tahlequah Public Library, 120 South College, Tahlequah, OK 74464.
Ellen will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
