Ned Cook

June 20, 1939 — February 18, 2019

Ned Cook the son of Maurice Cook Sr. and Anna LaDean (Pharris) Barani was born June 20, 1939 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and departed this life on February 18, 2019 in Hulbert, Oklahoma at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 29 days.

Ned was a 1958 graduate of Hulbert High School. After graduation he attended NSU for 2 years before joining the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) completing the Apprenticeship Program. He was then a 55 year member of the Local IBEW 584 as a journeyman. He worked for several different contractors through the IBEW local 584 where he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and skills with IBEW apprentices. The highlight of his career was being senior general foreman for the GRDA Coal fired Power Plant at Chouteau. Following the downturn in the national economy in the 1980's Ned was employed as an electrician at Northeastern State University until his retirement in June 2001. Ned married Judy Darrow Cook November 11, 1960 and they were blessed with three children Ron, Tracy Diane, and James. Following the death of his first wife, Ned married Lynda Chaffin Teague on June 23, 1978 embracing her two children, Rodney and Tracy Renee, as his own. Ned enjoyed life and loved going camping, hunting, working on the farm, spending time with grandkids, and riding horses. He enjoyed taking family vacations to the mountains, especially Colorado and New Mexico. He also enjoyed ski trips with Lynda. One thing that stood out the most about Ned was his faith. He loved the Lord and enjoyed talking about the Bible. Ned felt it was important that children were able to go to church camp, and paid for many kids to attend Falls Creek. If anyone needed a Bible, he would buy them one. He bought a Bible for many people over the years, including all his kids and grandkids. Ned touched many lives over the years and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; his first wife Judy Darrow Cook; his grandson Jeffrey Porter II; his brother-in-law David Purviance; and his sons-in-law Robert Hutchinson and Steven Swaggerty.

He is survived by a loving family which includes his wife of over 40 years Lynda Cook of the home; his sons Ron Cook and wife Margaret of Moody, James Cook and wife Angie of Hulbert and Rodney Teague and wife Shannon of Hulbert; his daughters Tracy Diane Hutchinson of Hulbert and Tracy Renee Porter and husband Jeff of Hulbert; his sister Carol Purviance of Wagoner; his grandchildren Matt, John, Ashlee, Josh, Kyndra, Desi, Walker, Lakin, Delaney, Wyatt, Brandon, Emily, Larat, Kenlee, Steven and Brittany; 11 great grandchildren and his faithful dog Blue.
