Rhoda Burgess

Rhoda Lou Burgess the daughter of Frank and Levina (Nichols) Applegate was born April 10, 1943 in Peggs, Oklahoma and departed this life on June 8, 2019 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 29 days.

In January 11, 1969, she married Billy Ray Burgess. They spent many years together of which very few minutes ever separated them. She worked beside him at the family business, Burgess Fruit Market. During which they had one daughter, they loved and raised together. Eventually Bill and Rhoda bought the business which they ran together until his death in 2000. She continued to run the market until her retirement in 2012.

After her retirement, Rhoda enjoyed doing her own thing her own way. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing, and cooking. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Just sitting on the porch and talking was a great day in her eyes. Rhoda touched many lives over the years and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Billy Ray Burgess; and her brother Jeff Applegate.

She is survived by a loving family which includes her daughter Gayla Anderson and husband John of Park Hill; her sister Ada Cannonie and husband Joe of Tahlequah; her sister-in-law Coylene Haley of Pryor; her grandchildren Chat Anderson and wife Kim of Stillwater and Morgan Kester and husband Marty of Stilwell; her great grandchildren Dixie Anderson and Lane Kester and her nieces and nephew Ryan Cannonie, Erica Babb, Alyssa Neal and Ashley Chancelor. Several friends and other relatives also survive her.
