Robert Hutchinson

March 18, 1920 — July 27, 2017

Robert Byron Hutchinson the son of Manuel Byron and Mary Lou (Kile) Hutchinson was born March 18, 1920 in Kiefer, Oklahoma and departed this life on July 27, 2017 at his home in Hulbert, Oklahoma at the age of 97 years, 4 months and 9 days.

Robert, "Pops", "Grandpa", "Poppy Jr." or whatever you may have known him by, was a man's man and lived a long prosperous life. He enjoyed life and all that it had to offer. Pops joined the Marine Corps in 1939 and served for over 20 years before transferring into the Reserve for another 10 years. While in the Corps he served in several different theatres including: the Guadal Canal in 1942, Tarawa in 1943, Siapan in 1944, Timanoia in 1944 where he was wounded and earned a Purple Heart, and Korea in 1951. While serving in the Corps Pops worked in the Atomic Program within the Space Program and he was proud of all of his service. After retiring from the Corps Pops moved to the Big Hollow area and began a new chapter in his life. Pops was an entrepreneur and had several different Laundromat's over the years in Tulsa and Muskogee and Tahlequah. Pops was married to Ada (Bennett) Hutchinson until her death in 1990 and then he married Dollie (Hefner) Hutchinson in August of 1999 and was married to her until her passing in 2013. In 1955 Pops took over guardianship of his 15 month old nephew Robert Marion Hutchinson and raised him as his own until his sudden death on May 10, 2014. After Robert's death Pops was well taken care of by his daughter-in-law and best friend Tracy Hutchinson. Pops still had a few things on his bucket list to take care of and Tracy made sure that whatever Pops wanted Pops got. Pops was a very caring person and loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and he also enjoyed traveling. As a Marine he was able to travel the world but he had always wanted to go to Hawaii, so at the age of 96 Tracy took him to Hawaii. Pops enjoyed gambling, classic cars and just having fun in life. On his 97th birthday he had a party at Hooters and all the girls got him a hat and signed it. Pops touched many lives over the past 97 years. He lived and loved with few regrets. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Ada Hutchinson; his second wife Dollie Hutchinson; his brothers Lester Hutchinson, Luther Hutchinson and Raymond Hutchinson; his sister Juanita Hutchinson; his son Robert Marion Hutchinson and his step-son Jack Hefner. Daughter in law Lisa Rae Hutchinson , grandsons Michael Hutchinson and Randall Byron Hutchinson.

He is survived by a loving family which includes his daughter-in-law and best friend for the past several years Tracy Hutchinson of the home; his daughter-in-law Helen Hefner of Ark; his grandchildren Sarah (Hutchinson) Dowdy and husband Rolandus of Broken Arrow, Kyle Byron Hutchinson and wife Bailee of Bolivar, TN, Kyndra R. Marsh and husband Cody of Hulbert, Amanda Hutchinson and Jeremy Hutchinson of Sierra Vista, AZ; and his great grandchildren Hailee Hutchinson, Raelynn Hutchinson, Andrue Dowdy, Alexis Marsh, Bella Mae Marsh, and Colton Hutchinson. Several nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive him.

Pops wanted to say "Thank You" to several people involved in his life over the past several years. To Tracy "Thank You For Loving Me". Thank You to a special friend Richard Williams for all that you have done. Thank You to Cherokee County Rehabilitation Center for 99 days of great care, especially 2 special nurses Kelly Coon and Jasmine Lea and also his caretakers Carolyn Wheeler and Desserray Cook. Last but not least to all of those who cared enough to stop by and say hi to an old Marine on his last set of orders. Thank You!
