Ronald Smiley

February 21, 1950 — May 18, 2016

Ronald Gene "Ronnie" Smiley was born in Oklahoma City on February 21, 1950 to Roy Gene Smiley and Letha Dorene Hilterbran. He entered heaven's gates on May 18, 2016 at the Muskogee VA Medical center, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Ronald served as a Field Artillery Specialist in the SVC Battery, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Artillery, Fifty US Army during the Vietnam War. He endured an especially long continuous tour to the most volatile war zone, near DaNang from March 17, 1970 to February 22, 1971.
No one can argue that this Vietnam tour of duty was the single most defining moment in Ronnie's life. Everything we know and love about Ronnie, including his honorable spirit, quirky personality traits, his habits, and his strengths and weaknesses, were directly tied to the impact that
Vietnam placed upon his life. After returning home from Vietnam, Ronnie held various pipefitting and maintenance jobs in Oklahoma City. On April 2, 1978, Ronnie moved to Park Hill, Oklahoma to help run the family car repair business, Roy's Garage. Ron truly was a master mechanic,
following in the footsteps of his dad. There was nothing Ronnie could not fix, whether it be a car, lawnmower- any item with a motor and moving parts. Many people living in the Keys community have trusted Ronnie with their car repairs at some point. Though a bit shy and introverted,
Ronnie was a true and steadfast friend, loved by anyone that knew him. He will be remembered to have had the spirit of a dove, mixed with the heart of a lion.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents Roy Gene and Letha Dorene Smiley, his great nephew Zacheria Cooper, and a host of grandparents, aunts, and uncles that have gone on before. Ronnie is survived by his son Ronald Jay Smiley, his sister Tina Hinds and husband
Randy Hinds, his sister Debbie Hartmann and husband Danny Hartmann, his niece Dana Wortham and husband Rick Wortham, his niece Kelli Cowan and husband Casey Cowan, his niece Kristina Eckerd, his nephew Taylor Gross, and his nephew Shelby Hinds and fiancé Kacey McGregor.
Ronnie is also survived by great nieces Chelsea, Payton, Allie, great nephew Nolan, as well as numerous other aunts, cousins, extended family members, and close friends.
