Travis Reed

April 1, 1927 — May 4, 2019

Travis Dean Reed the son of James Arlie and Minnie Alvie (Cox) Reed was born April 1, 1927, in Cane Hill, Arkansas and departed this life on May 4, 2019, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 3 days.

Dean enjoyed life and loved having a good time. He met the love of his life during the time of his sister's wedding and 30 days later, he married her. He and Lois Campbell Reed were still testing the waters of marriage over 67 years later. Dean's passion was music, and he was a musician. He has built nearly 40 steel guitars over the years. He was a pioneer in establishing the local steel guitar association. He was asked to go on tour with Mel Tillis, but his passion that surpassed any other was his family, since he had already started his family he turned down the touring opportunity. Dean loved to fish, and he wasn't afraid of hard work. In fact, he was working around the house even 8 weeks before his death. In his later years he has learned to enjoy western movies, because he has taken the time to sit and watch them. Dean would do anything, and he would get it done quickly, he was not a procrastinator and whatever task was at hand it was sure to be completed before you knew it. Dean touched many lives over the years and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Joy, his infant brother James, and his infant granddaughter Chanelle.

He is survived by a loving family which includes his wife of over 67 years, Lois Reed; his daughters Denise Reed of the Republic of Panama and Felecia Lawrence of Park Hill; his son-in-law Jerry Whitlock of Boca Raton, FL; his sister Belle Carte of Tahlequah; 2 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive him.
