Violet LaVerne Cleesen, longtime Tahlequah resident, passed away Friday May 22, 2015. She was 90 years of age.
Violet was born April 26, 1925 in Mexico, Missouri. She was the daughter of Walter Raymond and Noma Hester(Higginbotham) Prater. She grew up in Mexico and graduated from high school there. She was married to Roger Cleesen in Mexico, MO on August 12, 1942.
The couple came to Tahlequah in 1953. She was a homemaker and also worked for Morgan's Bakery for five years and the Tahlequah Pictorial Press as an Assistant Pressman for eleven and a half years. She enjoyed gardening, needlework and quilting.
She is survived by three daughters, one son, Stanley Cleesen of Tahlequah; Joyce Ray and husband Tom of Shady Grove, OK, Catherine Fundersol and husband Clayton, of New Llano, LA and Dusky (Judy) Lyne of Louise, TX; one brother, Jimmy Prater of Eufaula, AL; two grandchildren, Terasa Gail Bilon and husband Patrick and Victoria (Rose) McKee; and four great-grandchildren, Patrick Bilon Jr., Jenifer Bilon, Kylea Taylor, and Adrain Taylor.
