Virgil Smith

January 18, 1948 — February 24, 2022

Virgil Dewayne Smith of Claremore, OK passed away on February 24, 2022, in Tulsa, OK at the age of 74. Virgil was born on January 18, 1948, in Teresita, OK the son of Virgil Zene and Mary Evelyn (Scott) Smith.

Virgil or "Dewayne" as some may have known him as, was a devoted family man to the ones he called family. He was a very hard worker and always did his very best. He worked in construction as a contractor. He spent most of his life in Colorado and Oklahoma before moving to Georgia and then traveling with his work all over the country getting to experience living in many different states before coming back to Oklahoma in the 90's and there is where he has resided since. He was a lover of all kinds of music, back in the day he loved to ride his horses, he loved to travel when he could, he loved to collect all kinds of things and on Saturday morning you might find him at a garage sale or local thrift shop or Flea Market looking for a deal on antiques or selling his Indian jewelry that he made. Virgil enjoyed activities with Carol, Carolyn & many other great friends from the apartments. He always strived to live his life with honor, integrity and some humor. Virgil had a unique sense of humor and showed it. Everyone who really knew Virgil understands this statement and really appreciated this part of who he was. He will be missed dearly by all he leaves behind.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son; John Smith, a grandson; Josh Smith, infant brother; Douglas Smith, brother; Gary Leon Smith and sister; Elaine Smith as well as other relatives.

He is survived by his sister; Liz Smith-Jackson and husband Randy Jackson, his children; Bethan Smith-Mier of Georgia, Barbara Smith of Colorado, April Smith of Washington, Megan Smith of Georgia, several grandchildren, and friend and companion Connie Flowers, as well as numerous family and friends who also survive him.
