Wesley George Houk, 93, a resident of Tahlequah, OK, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 17, 1931, in a hotel in Kenwood, OK, to the late Fred Houk and Tisha (Gann) Houk.
Please join us in celebrating his life on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 10 am at Calvary Assembly of God Church. Burial will follow with military honors at Tahlequah City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 4 PM until 7 PM at Hart Funeral Home in Tahlequah.
Wesley proudly served his country in the United States Army. During his service he spent 16 months along the DMZ in Korea. Wesley was a Gideon, a Sunday School teacher and a Free Mason and also volunteered many hours at Tahlequah City Hospital as an auxiliary member. He served as a volunteer on the Election Board in Cherokee County. Wesley was a faithful member of Calvary Assembly of God Church where he served as a member of the Board of Trustees. Wesley worked as an Educator for many years and retired as a professor of accounting at NSU. While there he was a Facility Sponsor of the Chi Alpha of the Assemblies of God Church and started the VITA (volunteer income tax assistance) program. He enjoyed the many trips and memories he created with his wife, children and grandchildren going to Branson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph Houk and James Houk.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Ruth Houk, his children, Larry Houk and wife Nancy Jo, Talisa Puma, Kenny Bridges and wife Cheryl, Brent Bridges and wife Heather, and Scott Bridges. He is also survived by 13 loving grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and a host of friends.
