William Hummingbird the son of Dan Hummingbird and Katie (Beaver) Cooksey was born April 23, 1930 in the Rocky Mountain Community and he departed this life on March 21, 2019 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 26 days.
William loved life and he loved his family. He enjoyed being outdoors whether he was fishing, looking for water cress, hunting wild onions, or squirrel hunting. He enjoyed telling stories and telling jokes. His ability to speak allowed him the opportunity to do presentations at conferences with his daughter Ruth. His Cherokee Heritage was very important to and though he was fluent in speaking the Cherokee Language he enjoyed learning to read it. He also enjoyed eating old Cherokee cooking. William's family was most important to him and he loved them all very much. William touched many lives over the years and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Bonnie Mae Hummingbird; his stepson Barry Roberts; his brothers Roy Cooksey, Paul Cooksey and Swimmer Ketcher and his sister Daggie Walker.
He is survived by a loving family which includes his children Jeanette Washington and husband Curtis of Hulbert, Ruth Butson and husband Don of Tenkiller, Pat Hummingbird and wife Kathryn of Tulsa, Stacy Kemp of the home, and Wade Hummingbird and wife Stacy of Tulsa; his stepchildren Tounia McCutchin, Dale Roberts, and Frank Roberts; his sister Ella Mae Worley of Rocky Mountain and 13 grandchildren. Numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive him.
