Zora Mayes

Zora Helen Jones Mayes the daughter of Omar and Helen Jones was born February 6, 1940 in Lusk, Wyoming and departed this life on May 15, 2018 at the Cherokee County Nursing Home at the age of 78 years.

Zora loved to read, travel, plant flowers, cook and paint. She also loved to playing Domino's with her friends. She loved seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Some of her most memorable times were with her friend Cathy and their adventures.

Zora grew up in the Welling community. She went to grade school in Welling, Ok then to Tahlequah and Westville school. Zora married Don Mayes February 16, 1957 in Tahlequah, OK and moved to Frankfort, Kansas where Don got a teaching position, then moved to Marysville and Holton, KS. In 1982, they returned back to the Welling community. Zora worked as a bank teller at Denison State Bank in the Holton, KS and 1st State Bank Tahlequah and Bank of Commerce in Stilwell.

Zora is survived by her husband Don Mayes of the home; two children, Don Mayes Jr of Florida and Twila White of Holten, KS; Four grandchildren Devin White and wife Angela of Whiting, KS, Jeremy White and wife Amber of Topeka, KS, Trey Mayes and Megan Mayes of Hagerstown, MD. 4 great grandchildren Gracie, Ellie, Parker and Braxton White.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Welling Fire Department.
