Leola Robbins

June 9, 1939 — July 10, 2022

Leola (Scott) Robbins of McAllen, TX passed away on July 10, 2022, in McAllen, TX at the age of 83. Leola was born on June 9, 1939, the daughter of Cecil Scott and Nellie (Turman) Scott in Bunch, Oklahoma.

Leola was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, grandmother, great grandmother and even great great grandmother. "Granny" as she was fondly called, was a bright light in this world. She had a smile that would light up any room she walked in. She graduated from Tahlequah High School in 1957. She then worked for about 3 weeks to earn enough money to buy her $20 dollar wedding dress and on June 30th she married her sweetheart for life; Ulys Dale Robbins. After getting married, they moved to Tulsa for awhile and then back to Bunch where they eventually had their two girls; Debra Lynn and Darla Gwen. In the late 60's, she kept busy sewing and gardening. She really had a green thumb when it came to her plants. She was instrumental in getting phone lines to the Dry Creek area. She also worked with Cleo Stiles Bryan and the Extension Homemakers Program, helping people learn how to utilize their commodities.

In 1975, Leola moved to McAllen, Texas with her husband and Gwen. She found a small home and began her life in the Valley. Leola would often worked with disabled children to help them learn to move their muscles on their own. In her spare time, she would volunteer at hospitals and the Rio Grande Valley Food Bank. She eventually went to work for K-Mart as a greeter where her bright smile was definitely an asset. Leola spent time taking long nature walks in the park, watching birds, squirrels, raising turtles, rescuing dogs and of course caring for her greatest treasures which were her grands and great grands. She would often say "We always felt we would move back to Oklahoma, we never dreamed of being here for so long which just proves home is where you plant your feet." Leola was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in McAllen. We know that she is home with all of her loved ones, but the world lost a beautiful soul. There aren't enough words to convey the depth of our sorrow. The family would like to say a special thanks to Juan Trevino, Kreidler Funeral Home, Hart Funeral Home, and all who spent time in prayer and support.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Cecil and Nellie, her husband; Ulys Robbins, and her sister; Viola Turner.

She is survived by her family, which includes her children; Debbie Chandler of McAllen, TX, Gwen White of McAllen, TX, grandchildren; Michelle Mauze of Boerne, TX, Patrick Swagerty of Park Hill, OK, Amanda Malloy of Tulsa, OK, Joshua White of Sugarland, TX, and Christie Oxley of Bel Aire, KS, sister; Barbara Jean (Scott) Baker of Ft.
