Mildred Hamilton

August 20, 1928 — April 17, 2022

Mildred Irene (Sanders) Tillery Hamilton of Proctor, Oklahoma went to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday April 17, 2022, at the age of 93 with her family and their love by her side. Mildred was born on August 20, 1928, in Augusta, KS the daughter of Charlie and Millie (Graham) Sanders as the youngest of four siblings.

Mildred (Mig) grew up and made her home in Proctor the majority of her life. She went to Proctor School and graduated from Westville High School. She married Allen Tillery at the age of 18 and raised four children. Her most important role in life was being a wife, mother, and grandmother but also worked as a post master, school bus driver, and school cook. She later married Ray Hamilton of Proctor.

Mig's passions were her faith, family, friends, and community. She served as Vacation Bible School Director for over 50 years at her church, Proctor First Baptist Church. Some of her happiest moments were when all her family were gathered together. She was Mom and Granny Mig by heart to many. She served on the Westville Library Board, Adair County Soil Conservation District, election Poll/Inspector, and was instrumental along with Cherokee Nation and others in obtaining a grant to build the Proctor Community Center. She was a proud Cherokee Nation elder and a member of the Goingsnake District Heritage Association. Mig was an avid fisherman especially on Baron Fork Creek, loved to play games, listen to gospel music, and travel. Her trips to the Holy Land and over the Trail of Tears was some of her favorites.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Charlie and Millie Sanders, siblings; Clarence Sanders, Edna (Rene) Wendt, and Ella Skillern, first husband; Allen Tillery, second husband; Ray Hamilton, an infant son, and grandsons; Shane Charles and Lance Lingle.

She is survived by a loving family which includes her children; Terry Tillery and wife Celeste of Claremore, Oklahoma, Ron Tillery and wife Diane of Charleston, South Carolina, Greg Tillery and wife Lynn of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Leveda Charles and husband Don of Claremore, Oklahoma, grandchildren; Michael Tillery, Jason Tillery, Ryan Tillery, Bryce Tillery, John Tillery, Nicole Tagart, Faron Charles, Blake Charles (and spouses), 13 great grandchildren, plus great-great grandchildren; plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family by heart, and friends.
