Mona Williams

March 13, 1936 — September 24, 2021

Mona Jean (Vantrease) Williams was born to Elmer "Pete" and Chloe Irene Vantrease on March 13, 1936 in Sands Springs, Oklahoma. She passed away in the early morning moments of September 24, 2021 at the age of 85 years, 6 ½ months. During her early childhood, the family moved to Illinois in order for her parents to assist in the war effort by working at the shipyards near Chicago. She started school there, but was soon back in Oklahoma following the end of World War II. Mona was in high school when she met the love of her life, and on January 4, 1952 she married Rufus E "R.E." Williams. They remained together for over 58 years until R.E.'s passing in 2010. During their life together they both worked hard to provide for the family they had, he as a contract carpenter, and she as a beautician. Both owning their own small businesses. After moving to Peggs, she and R.E. raised cattle, ran a dairy, raised kids, and had a good life together.
Mona gave her heart and life to the Lord in early 1976, and was a member of the Clear Creek Freewill Baptist Church until transferring her membership to Peggs Community Church in the early 80's. She had been unable to attend services for some time due to health restrictions, but never gave up on studying God's word or praying for his guidance.
Mona is survived by two daughters, and one son; Kay Cordray, of Tahlequah; Kelly Cross and husband Steve of Mountainburg Arkansas, and Bobby Williams and his wife, Shannon, of Peggs. Also surviving are two grandsons, Cody Williams and wife, Tonya and Brady Williams; two granddaughters, Brianne Smith and Fiancé Nick Barron, and Haley Williams. Three great-grandsons, Dalton, Brandon, and Joshua Williams. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, her husband, and one daughter, Carole Ross. She was and is greatly loved by her family and will be sorely missed. She was the "glue" that held us together.
