Sarah Manes

September 12, 1937 — March 28, 2022

Sarah Margaret (Darrow) Manes was born in Okay, Oklahoma on September 12, 1937 to Joseph Clark Darrow and Fannie Margaret Garrison Darrow. Sarah was one of 13 children. Sarah wed the love of her life, James Robert Manes, on November 26, 1958 at her family home in Hulbert. Sarah frequently remarked that it was the happiest day of her life. Sarah and James remained married until her passing, nearing 64 years. Sarah and James shared 4 boys, Tony, Terry, Robert and Scott, whom Sarah stayed home to raise, love and adore. She thanked God for each of them every single day.
Sarah was saved and baptized when she was 9 years old. She attended Sunday School and church at First Baptist Church Okay until 1949 when her family moved to Hulbert and she then joined Hulbert First Baptist Church until her death, totaling 74 years of actively reaching the Hulbert community for Christ. Sarah was actively involved in many aspects of the church involving teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, serving at fall festivals and anywhere else needed, including dressing up as various Halloween costumes to ensure children were constantly amused. Sarah was known for her devoted faith to the Lord, her family, and her kind heart. Those who knew her best knew Sarah had a wonderful sense of humor and a sharp wit that was incredibly hard to match. She was extremely competitive with her card and domino games and enjoyed hosting company at her home. Sarah was a daredevil and would never turn down the thrill of a roller coaster, four wheeler or the occasional motorcycle ride with Trooper Tommy Mullins.

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Fannie Darrow; her siblings: Milford, Lulu Bell, Mandie, Jackson, Orval, Joseph, Ida Mae, George, Della, Jewel (Judy), Charles and an infant sister.

Sarah had numerous nieces and nephews who were beloved and adored by her as well as her brother-in-law, Barney and his wife and children. She is survived by her son Tony and his wife Dorothy of Hulbert; her son Terry of Hulbert; her son Robert of Hulbert; her son Scott and his wife Brigette Manes of Hulbert. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Janie Manes and Andrew London of Tahlequah, Justin and Terrah Manes of Park Hill; Adam Breeden of Oklahoma City; Amber Manes of Tahlequah; Ashley Manes of Tahlequah; Rachel and Daniel Dallis of Hulbert; Rebecca and Hunter Eastham of Hulbert; Abigail Manes of Hulbert and numerous great grandchildren. In addition to her own family, Sarah was known as Grandma or Aunt Sarah to countless community members. She had a true servant's heart and welcomed anyone and everyone into her home and would frequently cook for an army of people. Her love for her family, community and people in general is absolutely unmatched and was immediately apparent upon meeting her. Sarah departed this world to join her Lord and Savior on March 28, 2022 at the family home surrounded by her husband, sons and family members.
