Thomas Johnson

August 27, 1943 — September 20, 2021

Thomas Lee Johnson of Tahlequah passed away and began his journey home on 20 September 2021 from Tahlequah, OK at the age of 78. He was born on August 27, 1943, in Calvin, OK the son of Charley and Judy (Bear) Johnson.

Thomas attended Chilocco Indian School where he met his wife Ida. He played football, was the pitcher of the baseball team and was known as "The Mound Ace". He served in the 45th Infantry Division, 279th Infantry Regiment, Company C - "MOVIN ON". It was here that Thomas made many lifelong friends. After high school he married his high school sweetheart Ida McCoy. He volunteered to serve in the US Army and became a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, he deployed to the Vietnam War and served in a Helicopter Platoon from 1965-1966. After he came home, he became a Pipe Welder, and was known as "TL" to his coworkers. Thomas retired from Trinity Industries after 35 years of exemplary service . They had two children, Harvey and Charla and now many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Thomas enjoyed spending time with family, especially spoiling the grandkids. He enjoyed watching sports, especially OU and Dallas Cowboys football although his favorite teams to watch were the teams his kids and grandkids played on. He spent fun times with family cheering on his teams, going fishing, swimming at the lake, drives to see family, holiday gatherings, lunch at the UKB, and long drives with his wife. They were married 56 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charley and Judy Johnson, sister Hannah Foster, brothers David Johnson, and Andrew Johnson.

He is survived by a loving family which includes wife Ida Johnson, son Harvey Johnson and granddaughter Teala Wildcat-Johnson, his grandson Miccah Johnson and wife Lindsey and daughters River, Layla, Brooklyn, and sons Antonio and Trey, his daughter Charla and husband Lynn Cutshaw granddaughter Maris Cutshaw, grandson Zane Cutshaw and many other extended family members.
