TONNETTE K. HUMMINGBIRD

Tonnette Kay (Mouse) Hummingbird, aged 50, passed from this life on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at her home in Hulbert, OK. Tonnette was born on August 27, 1971, the third of four children of Tony Mouse and Betty (Downing) Mouse of Spavinaw, Oklahoma. Tonnette attended Spavinaw Elementary and later graduated from Jay High School in 1989.

At an early age, Tonnette was active in sports, playing on various baseball, softball, and basketball teams. Her natural skills and abilities helped Tonnette and her Jay High School Lady Bulldogs teammates win two state silver-ball basketball trophies and going undefeated to one gold-ball championship. Tonnette took her skills to Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma where she played on the basketball and softball teams. After college, Tonnette continued playing the sports she loved on independent teams, travelling across the state to various sporting events.

In 1990, Tonnette was crowned Miss Cherokee representing the Cherokee Nation at social and governmental functions. She later began working for the Cherokee Nation where she met her future husband, Jamie Hummingbird. The two were married and began their new lives together on April 20,1996. The couple welcomed Tonnette's nephews, Charles and Sam Jones, into their home and were soon to welcome their first child, Lauren, in 2001. After beating breast cancer, Tonnette and Jamie were blessed with their son, Lance, in 2010.

Throughout the years, Tonnette has been involved in many activities, either as a participant or a volunteer. She volunteered many years to the Miss Cherokee Leadership Competition and other Cherokee Nation Holiday events. In addition to coaching her daughter's softball team she could be found attending cheer competitions, dance recitals, golf tournaments, and basketball & volleyball games. Tonnette could also be counted on to jump in and help with family and community events, all the while sporting that amazing smile for which she's famous.

Tonnette was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Mouse, and is survived by her husband Jamie of the home, daughter Lauren Hummingbird, and son Lance Hummingbird; father Tony Mouse, Sr. of Spavinaw, Oklahoma; brothers Daryll Mouse and wife Virginia of Grove, Oklahoma, Nick Mouse of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Tony Mouse, Jr. of Tahlequah; sister Glenda Downing of Tahlequah; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Hart's Funeral Home in Tahlequah, Oklahoma from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 24, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., at Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Tahlequah.
